Burnbrae Byre Holiday Home

Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway

Set in the Dumfries and Galloway Countryside the brief for this project was to convert, extent and restore a C-listed byre to form a contemporary holiday home.

The two stone bays which form the Byre were retained whilst new floors, roofs and rear were formed. Central to the design is the open plan living & dining area that leads to the bedrooms at either end of the property. The open roof structure and large area of glazing give the main living space a bright and spacious feel whilst at night-time the  multi-fuel stove, oak floors and highly insulated building fabric give the space a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.

 

ICDP’s conservation architects were required to provide rigorous design detailing and specification for the lime pointed whin stone walls, natural slate roof and timber lay-pane glazing.
