castleford green technology park masterplanning architects scotland

A comprehensive Masterplan was prepared by ICDP to transform the decommissioned Hickson & Welch chemical plant in Castleford into to a Green Technology park comprising of a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), a Biomass to Liquid Fuel Plant, industrial units, housing and a supermarket. The core function of this 34 hectare development involved the recycling and reprocessing of waste biomass to form aviation bio-fuel. The industrial facilities were positioned close to the river and railway line from where biomass would be delivered and recycled material and biofuel would be exported. The new housing was laid out close to the Town Centre and on the banks of the River Aire to provide a sense of local identity and to strengthen the local urban fabric. This Masterplan strategy was delivered by a multi-disciplinary team involving architects, transport consultants, waste management specialists, chemical scientists, decontamination experts and landscape designers.
