Our client’s brief was to create an open-plan extension for kitchen/dining/living room while rationalising the circulation of the original house, and remodelling the sloping garden.

Our response was to turn the L-shaped plan into a U-shape, creating a courtyard area and providing an open-plan family hub with full-height glazed bay at one end to accentuate the sunlight and views to the south of the site. The interior has a warm palette of materials with a larch-clad ceiling, open timber feature-trusses, oak flooring, coloured bulkhead and exposed granite walls, indicating where the new building meets the old. The street elevation meets Conservation compliance, while the new interior is contemporary, light and spacious.
