Waste Wood Plant
St. Albans
This biomass-fuelled renewable energy plant will process recovered household and commercial wood-waste, producing some 6MW of energy for export to the national grid. Because the energy is produced from wood, a renewable resource, it would be renewable energy. It is proposed that up to 60,000 tonnes of wood waste would be processed at the site each year, averaging up to seven tonnes per hour. The wood used in the plant would be waste which would otherwise go to landfill that cannot be recycled or reused. The main operational elements of the development will be housed within an architect-designed building located close to the northern boundary of the site. This location, near the embankment next to the A414, has been selected to minimise the visual impact of the built development.
